"The crown jewel of the west is cracked and dirty, but it still shines brightly"

Rathir is the largest city in Amalur, and although a large percentage of its population is Human, it is home to anyone who is determined enough to make their home there. Resting on Drianna's vein, Rathir has Tala Rane to the south and Mel Shenshir accross the bay to the east. It is a city of opportunity, one where anyone with sufficient ambition and guile can make a name for themself. The port at Rathir is the largest is the known world, and merchant ships commonly dock there, bringing with them exotics goods and people.

The city is ruled by a council of 3 - one is elected by the common folk, one is a member of the original 5 families that created Rathir, and one is randomly chosen from among ranking members of it's massive army. In this way, none of the needs of Rathians go unheard. The current council is made up of, respectively: Brey Cuttlescar, Talfen Arkalis the 3rd and Nilus "The Axe" Graylock. Like any city, Rathir has it's comfortable districts of the wealthy, and it's decrepit slums of squalor - but what truly astounds travellers is the city's magic district. Second to none, some have compared the accomplishments of this gathering of the greatest minds in the court of Summer to on par with even the Fae.
