A Well of Souls is generally understood as a natural or artificial portal between the Material Plane and the Fade. There is some evidence that all souls that pass to the Fade at the moment of death pass through a Well in one way or another, although there is scholarly disagreement about this, as well as the proposed mechanism(s) by which this occurs.

Notable Wells

The Well in the Village of Gorhart, created by Vistrum Blackstone.

The Well in the Plains of Odarth, where the Orb Walkers first met Yestris.

The Well in Etinmere, where the Orb Walkers entered the Fade to stop Vistrum once and for all.

The Well beneath Glendara, where the Orb Walkers battled Akordia, (possibly) the Reaper of the Grim and (possibly) Yestris.

Other Wells

In Ghurrix's final speech to the Orb Walkers, he alluded to another "Gaping Maw" in his original home, and said that he used to guard it.
