Tredigar Hackshield is a member of the Templar Order of Tala Rane, and the current Prefect Maximus. He was one of two candidates running in the Templar Election of 2517, against Katwyn Irongull. Tredigar was formerly the Prefect of Magic, a role that has been taken over by Samuel Truestone.

He was once a research partner of Vistrum Blackstone and Samuel Truestone. As the Prefect of Magic, he was the superior officer for Thoradin Clearsight. In this role, he sent Thoradin - with a detachment of mercenaries that would later become the Orb Walkers - to the village of Gorhart to deal with a Well of Souls that had been opened there by Tredigar's former research parter, Vistrum Blackstone.

After that well was closed and Vistrum thought to have fallen within and been lost, Tredigar instructed the Orb Walkers to close two more Wells, one in Etinmere and the other in the Plains of Odarth, while he returned to Tala Rane to prepare for the upcoming elections for Prefect Maximus. Having become suspicious of him, the Orb Walkers worked together with another Templar, Breya Cuttlescar, to find the missing third member of this research group, Samuel Truestone. They eventually found him in the Mines of Glendara, having been enslaved by the Duregar there.

In time, Tredigar and the Orb Walkers reconciled, and even managed to rekindle his friendship with Samuel, who he convinced to take his place as Prefect of Magic once Tredigar was elected Prefect Maximus.
