Abdul Alhazred, frequently known as the Mad Mage, was an ancient Necromancer of incredible power. A learned man and a scholar, Alhazred spent the first few decades of his mortal life on the Material Plane, travelling widely and recording all he saw. An extremely skilled sorceror, Alhazred frequently travelled to other planes, including Outer Planes, and found ways to prolong his life - possibly forever. However, he has not been seen or felt on the Material for thousands of years, leaving behind only the powerful artifacts he created or found, most notable of which are the fragments of the Necronomicon that sometimes end up on the plane, much to the horror of it's residents.

Although they have luckily never encountered him, the Orb Walkers found two of Alhazred's relics in the Fortalice of Old - a page of the infamous Necronomicon (which made Tilrinel temporarily blind) and Alhazred's Ruin.
