The Necronomicon is a tome of immense power, being authored by the greatest mortal mage that ever lived - Abdul Alhazred. Within it are secrets no mortal - and perhaps no God - was ever meant to know, and the mere sight of it's writings is enough to send most into permanent madness.

At some point in the past, powerful benevolent forces - unable to destroy the book itself - unbound it into it's constituent pages and scattered them across the Planes. Even still, a single page is powerful enough to be a threat to an entire plane, and were the text ever made whole again doom would befall countless worlds.

Presence on the Material Plane

The Orb Walkers found a page of the Necronomicon - along with Alhazred's Ruin - in the Fortalice of Old. They took both with them but were unable to decide how to rid their world of such evil.

Later, while travelling through the Sidhe to reach Neutral Ground, Valmet Blessedborn made a desperate plea for help to Athreos to rid this world of the two artifacts. To her shock - as well as the shock of the other Orb Walkers and even the Fae - her God was able to banish the page and stone from the Material Plane for now.
